“Youth empowerment through opportunities provided by the EU”. Information session with young interns of Tirana Municipality.

TIRANA, MAY 8, 2019 - The Directorate of European Integration and Foreign Projects in the Municipality of Tirana held an information session with a group of young people who are part of the municipalities program for inviting young interns to become part of the administration.

The session was held at the premises of the training hall in the Municipality of Tirana, under the care of it’s EU Corner and Coordinator of the “Municipalities for Europe” project, Ms. Blerta Tuci.

During this information session, Mrs. Jolanda Trebicka, Team Leader of the Project "Municipalities for Europe" gave a detailed presentation on the role that European integration units play at the local level. During this open discussion with the young interns of the Municipality of Tirana, many subjects were addressed as important parts of the role that local governance plays and will play in Albania’s EU integration, like enhancing the managing abilities in local governance, increasing it’s role in countering extremist violence, the establishment of centers for children, drafting gender equality strategies, etc.

The youth present at the session were briefed on the opportunities for receiving information provided by the EU Corners at local levels, which started out with only three information centers in 2017 and now count 61 Desks, all functional also online.

The interns were particularly interested in programs directly linked to a career and a future, such as the Erasmus + program or other Union Programs, which have a direct impact on their further qualifications.

The head of the Directorate of European Integration and Foreign Projects in the Municipality of Tirana, Ms. Adela Abazi and the coordinator of "Municipalities for Europe", Ms. Blerta Tuci responded to the interest of the youth, while giving a detailed presentation on the empowerment of youth at the local level through EU supported policies. 

Present in the meeting was also the representative of the Agency for Local Self-Government, Ms. Enxhi Dosti.

The information session with the young interns took place in the framework of a series of activities, held in all the 61 municipalities of the country, which are being held in parallel within the "Europe Week 2019", whose main theme is "Power of Youth".
